DAY 1
Arrival in Addis Ababa, transfer to the hotel and you’ll have time for a city tour.
DAY 2
Morning flight north to Mekele and continue driving into the Danakil depression through Abala and Erebti then Ert Ale from where you will start your late afternoon 3hrs trek to Ert Ale volcano.
DAY 3
Trek back to the cars and drive north to Hamed Ela. Camping or nomad house
DAY 4
Morning excursion to Dallol hill where you will see the colorful surface covered by different minerals and the volcanic chimneys. Afternoon visit the traditional salt mining and camel caravans.
DAY 5
Drive out of the Danakil depression to the Gheralta Mountains.
DAY 6
Full day to visit the rock-hewn churches of Tigray on the Gheralta Mountains.
DAY 7
Early morning departure for your trip to the Danakil depression. Camping/basic nomad house at Hamed Ela.
DAY 8
Drive back to Mekele through the 7th Muslim town at Negash and the rock-hewn church of Abrhan Atsbaha. Late afternoon/evening flight back to Addis.

Only two hours away from the Tigrayan capital of Mekele, you quickly develop a sense of the scale as you drive out of the city and into the expansive Gheralta landscape. There’s only one thing from here on: untouched, unending wilderness.
